THE INTERSECTION BETWEEN SCIENCE & THE OUTDOORS

I fell in love with the outdoors through science. Many ecologists and field scientists grow up hiking, camping and spending their weekends outside — that wasn’t me.

My first time camping was in the tropics while studying abroad, fully equipped with venomous snakes, monkeys, bugs and more bugs. But I loved it and it brought out a side of me that I didn’t know was there. And, when I found out people did science outside… CHECK!

I spent the next ten years of my life hiking crazy terrain to do science, I started paddling in grad school and I even found ways to merge my love of science, adventure and writing.
